Artterro Paper Cranes & Origami Kit Feedback

Friday, July 11th, 2014

Have you ever used Artterro paper to make origami?  We find that the thick, sturdy pieces are perfect for folding intricate shapes, and you end up with something that looks like a special gift.  You’ll find the paper in our Bookmaking Kit, Art Dolls Kit and Creativity Kit.  Shari made these beautiful cranes recently.  We love how the subtle patterns on the papers she chose results in such unique little creatures.  And of course, it always feels great to use 100% recycled, handmade paper.

If we were to develop an Artterro Origami Kit, what kind of project ideas would you want to be included?  Cranes? Frogs? Gift boxes?  Something fairly challenging or relatively simple?  Let us know in the comments!

Handmade recycled paper - new patterns - Bookmaking Kit

It is always a thrill to get a big pallet full of new paper from our friends at Shizen Designs.  The luscious texture and quality is the same every time, but the patterns are exciting and new.  And impressively on trend!  Everything from mod geometric prints to offbeat chevron, plus some classic paisley and floral and always-vibrant solids.

Handmade Recycled Paper

Does it get your art imagination going?  It would be impossible to pick just one for a card-making or paper art project!  Luckily we put a big, beautiful, unique assortment in each Bookmaking Kit.  You’ll also find several pieces in the Creativity Kit, Art Journal Kit, and the Art Dolls Kit.

Valentine Decorations for Kids

It’s awfully fun to to spread the love with heart-shaped decorations on Valentine’s Day.  You can go the traditional and elegant route with doilies and pink tissue paper, or try something a little more offbeat.  Here’s a perfect Valentine-themed project for a play date, classroom activity or family craft night.   It’s open-ended–pick out whatever papers, beads and other materials you want, and create Valentine ornaments to hang all over the house.

DIY Paper & Bead Valentine Ornament Project

What you’ll need: sturdy paper, thread, beads.

  1. Thread a needle (if you’re using small beads) and tie a big knot at one end.
  2. String some beads.
  3. Glue two hearts together with the thread in between.
  4. String more beads.
  5. Repeat as many times as you like, leaving enough room to tie a loop at the top.
  6. Hang your lovely ornament from your mantle or attach it to a special gift.  If you make several extra-long ones, you could even fill up an entire door frame–perfect if you’re hosting a Valentine party!
Creative, simple valentine decoration

NY Gift Fair: Booth Transformation!

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

We had an absolutely amazing time at the New York International Gift Fair!  Our shipping department is bustling, and will be for months, thanks to our wonderful new accounts.  We were blown away by the glowing reviews and delighted responses we got from store owners and buyers everyday.  Thank you NYC!

Happy Artterro Owners, Forrest & Jen.

Designing our booth is always an especially fun trade show challenge–how do you catch the eye of busy, overwhelmed buyers and press people on the hunt for the hottest new products and trends of 2012?  We decided to highlight our beautiful materials with some handmade art of our own.  Our booth went from this:

To this:

Halfway there…

To (finally!) this:

Here are some close-ups on the homemade flag banner, paper crane mobile and various shadow boxes full of Artterro art:

Eco-Supplier Spotlight: Shizen Design Handmade Papers

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

If you’ve tried our Creativity, Bookmaking and/or Art Dolls Kits, you’ve probably been struck by the beautifully-designed, vibrant paper they feature.

Shizen Design Handmade Papers

Wondering where we found such unique, high-quality paper (and what exactly makes it eco-friendly)?  Here’s the secret:

Shizen Design Handmade Papers

Shizen (which means “nature” in Japanese) imports all the paper in our kits.  But this is no ordinary paper!

Shizen Design Artisan

Shizen’s paper is handmade by artisans in India and Thailand.

Paper Making

It’s entirely composed of scraps from the Indian Garment Industry, making it 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper.

Pouring Paint

The paper-making process is completely pollution-free.

Paper Making

A fantastic husband-and-wife team owns the company.  Neil and Shelly do an amazing job working with their contacts abroad to bring this paper to the US, and Shelly designs all the glorious patterns herself.

Shizen Paper

Thanks for helping to make our kits so beautiful, Shizen Design!
